Outlook Conference Keynote Speakers

The Annual Outlook Conference for the Wine Industry Association has attracted some good speakers and presentations which will ensure the conference is relevant and topical. The keynote address “Surviving to Thriving” will be presented by Phil Sexton, someone well known to the industry in WA – and someone well qualified to lead the debate for the day. Born in Busselton, Phil was a partner in the successful establishment of Matilda Bay Brewery, Devils Lair, Dome Coffee and Little Creatures Brewery as well as other small restaurant and bar businesses. Andrew Kay from Wirra Wirra Vineyard, McLaren Vale will also join the conference taking on the presentation “Managing in a Crisis”. Both of the interstate speakers are knowledgeable and hands on operators who will add a great perspective for local attendees.

The Conference has been broken into two formats with plenary sessions offered in the morning and break out sessions in the afternoon covering Technical, Marketing and Regulation streams. There is plenty for members who need to keep up with industry trends and directions. Lawrie Stanford will provide an update and national outlook for the wine industry. Other issues such as environmental assurance, water reform and new varietals will be covered off in the afternoon technical sessions.
There are challenges for the industry, and the conference this year will ensure that delegates attending will be better armed, better informed and motivated to make a difference.

In a move from the city, the 2009 Conference will be held at the regional hub of Bunbury on October 23 – close to the south west regions in the pleasant surroundings of the Sanctuary Golf Resort. The Conference will be a stand alone function being staged separately to the Annual Awards night which will remain in Perth on November 13.
