Winestate Magazine presents: "The Swedish Wine Watch Challenge 2016"

Dear Australian and New Zealand Winemakers

Sweden is one of Europe’s strongest economies and also a very good market for new world wines. The wines of Australia and New Zealand are widely sold and consumed in this vibrant market.

In collaboration with the Swedish importer Espumante and it´s newly announced E-report (Swedish Wine Watch) Winestate has arranged for Espumante to conduct a wine judging of Australian and New Zealand wines in Sweden!

The importer has arranged some of Sweden’s top wine writers, sommeliers and buyers of the monopoly (Systembolaget) to be in the judging. All with different expertise and preference. With the clear ambition of finding out what type of wines will best fit the marketplace today.

Whilst there is no guarantee of an import order, this is a very low cost method of having your wines sent to, and reviewed by a vast vary of representatives from the Swedish market.

The judges will use the traditional wine show judging system (stars) exactly the same as Winestate.

All varietals from all regions of Australia and New Zealand are required, and they can be new release or wines that Winestate has reviewed previously – either by the Australian panels or Michael Cooper’s judging in NZ.

Key Dates

  • Entries open – from MONDAY 6 JUNE 2016 (the national day of Sweden)
  • Samples delivered to Winestate Office in Unley (Adelaide) South Australia – before FRIDAY 29 JULY 2016
  • Wines will be shipped to Stockholm by the Swedish importer for judging early October 2016.

Results will then be distributed to key buyers / monopoly and wine magazines in Sweden, as well as to Winestate for publishing on www.winestate.com.au

Submission form is at: Follow this link

Please complete the submission form and include with your samples (2 bottles of each wine that you want presented) and ensure samples are delivered to:

Put on your best Poker Face and join us for an authentic North American Poker Run. 3 Small Wineries (Ugly Duckling Wines, Tyler’s Vineyard and Entopia Wines) invite you to explore Swan Valley’s boutique wineries while trying your luck at gathering the best poker hand in the Valley. In less than 3 hours you can visit these 3 unique family owned and operated wineries and sample small batch boutique wines as you talk to the vineyard owners and assemble your best poker hand.

Starting a small winery can be a gamble, but for these 3 wineries, the cards were in their favour as they are now producing wonderful wines, including specialties such as Verdelho Fortified, non irrigated old growth Grenache and Liqueur Shiraz, along with a variety of Whites, Reds, Roses and Sparkling.

Begin your Poker Run at Ugly Duckling Wines, then Tyler’s Vineyard and end at Entopia Wines. At each of the 3 wineries, choose your favourite wines from the tasting and for every bottle purchased, you will receive a poker card (Max. 2 cards per winery). Build your best poker hand and submit. At the conclusion of the weekend all poker hands will be ranked by American Poker rules to win great prizes. Winning will depend on the luck of the cards. Pandemonium Estate

Saturday 12th March 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Frutimer Festival
Pandemonium Estate is the newest cellar door in the Swan Valley and we want to
invite everyone to our festival celebrating our favourite demon. Frutimer is the demon
who rules over parties and festivals and is the companion of our Sauvignon Chenin
blend, combining our estate grown, classic Spanish white variety and a Swan Valley
favourite. Our vineyard specialises in Spanish style wines and we are showcasing our
fresh, vibrant whites and full bodied reds including our Tempranillo blend.
Saturday 12th March will be the start of our weekend festival and from 1.00pm to
5.00pm we will have music and Spanish food. Wine can be purchased by the glass,
come and enjoy our spectacular views of the Darling Range.
