The tightly knit community of the Swan Valley will rally around to support one of it’s own, in a very special fundraiser held by Mondo Community Warriors at Caversham House on August 7th.
The fundraiser will be a 50’s, 60’s and 70’s themed cocktail style event, with more than 50 art pieces, sculptures and hand crafted furniture items to be auctioned, all within the magnificent surrounds of Caversham House. Every aspect of the event is being donated, including food and wine, entertainment and art pieces, the proceeds from which will go to assist twenty year old Ulio Battistessa through the Mondo Community Warriors.
Ulio, who is the son of renowned Perth artist and sculptor Antonio Battistessa, was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma cancer in 2013, which is one of the rarest forms of soft tissue cancer in the world. Ulio’s battle has seen him struggle through multiple treatments and operations, one which involved the removal of his right leg.
“To be honest I am surprised, but not surprised at the same time at the spirit and kindness of the community in putting together this event. Dad has given so much to so many people that I guess that everyone is happy to support him, and therefore us. My treatments have been expensive, and the funds raised will go a long way towards covering a new prosthetic leg and many of the ongoing treatments needed to battle this disease,” he said.
Ulio’s diagnosis was a blow to the active young man who says he had everything going for him. “I had just started work, had a great life and it was my time to shine. Then it was all taken away from me. It’s been tough, but the support and love I feel from friends and family, and now the wider community, has really lifted my spirits.”
