Slashing Causing Fires at Vineyards

 Some key points:

  • Ensure all harvesting/mowing equipment is well maintained. Continually check for build-up of straw and grass around hot engine components such as exhausts, turbo chargers, etc.;
  • Re-fuel vehicles on bare areas or fire-breaks;
  • Keep a water source on the slasher such as a 9L water extinguisher. This needs to be checked and operational. Alternatively, a slip on unit nearby or following would be better; and
  • It is also important someone is keeping an eye on the area as the slasher moves across the grass to watch for ignitions.
